USING MY LOCAL TOOLBOX

We work with some of the UK’s best ‘find a tradesperson’ platforms and send your job to the platform we think will get you the best response. You’ll see a ‘powered by’ logo on the page where you post your job - this is the platform we’ve chosen for that job type.

Firstly, post a job by selecting the trade you need and filling out the interactive form. We’ll post your job and contact details to one of our partner platforms (Rated People, My Job Quote, Quotatis, Bark or Service Start). They share your job with the relevant tradespeople in their network (but not your contact details to begin with). If a tradesperson is interested in your job, they will pay a small fee to see your contact details so they can contact you and arrange a quote. You decide who, if any, of the tradespeople you want to hire. To help you make a decision, our partner platform will send you an email with the tradesperson’s profile and reviews.

You can click here to post a job. We’ll ask you what trade you need and then guide you through an interactive form that will create your job post. Once you submit the form, you’ll receive a confirmation email that your job has been successfully posted.

Once you post your job, we instantly send your requirements to our chosen partner platform. They share it with the relevant tradespeople in their network. For the next few days, your job will be live and tradespeople will have the option of paying a small fee to contact you to arrange a quote.

We ask you a few questions about your job. Be as descriptive as possible. The more information you give, the more likely it is you’ll get a good response from tradespeople. Detailed descriptions tend to get a better response because a tradesperson has a very clear idea of what is needed and whether they can help, so be sure to include anything that you think is relevant.

We ask for your contact details so that the tradespeople who want to respond to your job post can contact you directly to arrange a quote. Your contact details are only ever shared with one of our partner platforms and the tradespeople who express genuine interest in the work.

No, your contact details are not made public.

If it’s just a rough guide you’re after, please take a look at our cost guides instead of posting a job. When you post a job to get quotes, tradespeople have to pay a small fee in order to make contact with you. So please only post a job if you are genuinely looking for a quote.

No, it’s free to post a job.

It depends on the level of interest in your job. Seasonal trends in tradespeople’s availability, tradespeople’s busy schedules or a vague job description are a few examples that can affect response rate.

It also depends on which of our partner platforms we post your job to (look out for the ‘Powered by…’ logo to know which platform we’ll send your job to).

Below we’ve listed the maximum number of tradespeople that will contact you for each of our partners.

  • Rated People - up to 3
  • My Job Quote - up to 3
  • Quotatis - up to 4
  • Bark - up to 5
  • Service Start - up to 5
If no tradespeople show interest in your job, you may not hear back at all.

You could be contacted within minutes or you may not hear back for a day or so. It just depends - on the job, on tradespeople's availability, your location and when you posted the job. If you haven’t had a response from tradespeople within 3 days it is unlikely that you’ll get one. If you don’t get a quick response we suggest editing your job to provide a more detailed description and considering whether the budget you specified (if you were asked to specify one) was realistic.

If no one contacts you, it is normally due to a lack of interest in your job. This could be down to a number of things; for example, availability, your location or an unrealistic budget. Try posting your job again and providing more detail in the description to see if you get a better response.

No, of course not! You’re under no obligation to hire any of the tradespeople we help to match you with.

Whichever one you think is best suited to your situation. We do recommend that you read our guide to hiring a tradesperson before you make any decisions. It talks you through what questions to ask and what to look out for in a good tradesperson.

We use the information you provide to make sure the job reaches the most suitable candidates.

No, we don’t. Each tradesperson is independent and does not work for or on behalf of us. Ultimately it is your decision and responsibility for who you hire.

No, only you can take down a job. Sorry! Please follow the instructions above for ‘How do I cancel / take down a job?’.

There is an ‘unsubscribe’ link at the bottom of every marketing email we send. Click on this and you will stop receiving emails from us. Sorry to see you go!

Yes please. Once you’ve found the right tradesperson for the job, remove or cancel it so that no other tradespeople waste their money trying to quote on a job you’ve already awarded to someone else. To cancel your job see the instructions above for ‘How do I cancel / take down a job?’.

Yes. They stay live for up to 7 days. If you haven’t had a response from tradespeople by then it is safe to say tradespeople are not interested in it.

Feedback

Once you are matched with a tradesperson, you are sent a link to their profile where you can see reviews from their previous jobs. Customer feedback is a great way to screen potential candidates.

If a tradesperson doesn’t have any reviews, the chances are they are new to the platform. Don’t be put off by this. New tradespeople are normally eager to do a quality job so that they can build up their ratings. There are other ways to vet a tradesperson, aside from ratings. See our guide to hiring tradespeople for some good questions to ask and checks to make.

To leave a review, log in to your account for the relevant partner platform (see above FAQ for how to log in) and navigate to the page that lists your jobs. Select the relevant job and you will see an option to leave a review.

No, you don’t have to leave a review but we do encourage it. Tradespeople rely on the feedback of their previous customers to build a good profile. Equally important is the benefit of your feedback for other customers.

To complain about a tradesperson, please contact the platform that we posted your job to. Our partners use complaints to monitor their network of tradespeople and repeat or serious offenders will be removed from their platform.
