How many packs of laminate do I need?

You’ve chosen the laminate flooring for your room, but now you’re wondering ‘how many packs of laminate do I need?’

how much laminate flooring do i need

Don’t worry, follow our step by step guide on how to work out how many packs of laminate you need so you don’t fall short or order too many.

Measure the area of the room

Firstly, you need to measure the area of the room, as most packs of laminate flooring come in square metres. To do this, you need to measure the length and the width of the room in metres, then multiply these measurements together to calculate the area in square metres.

For example, if your room is 4 metres wide by 3 metres long, the total area will be 12 square metres (m²).

If your room is odd shaped or you’d like a more detailed explanation of how to calculate the area of the room, you can visit our ‘How to measure a room for laminate flooring’ page.

Check the coverage on the pack

Usually, laminate flooring comes in packs and they should say on them the area that they cover.

You need to divide the total area of your room by the coverage on the pack:

The total area of the room (m²) / coverage per pack (m²) = Number of packs of laminate needed

For example, if your room is 12 m² and the pack of laminate flooring you have chosen has a coverage area of 1.25 m²:

12 / 1.25 = 9.6 packs of laminate

Include extra for waste

You should always add 10% for any wastage. Your floor fitter may need extra for any unusual cuttings or fittings.

So using the above figures you would multiply 9.6 x 1.1 = 10.56

Round up to the nearest whole number

Rounding up your figure to the nearest whole number will give you your answer of how many packs of laminate flooring you need.

Therefore, in this instance, it would equal 11 packs of laminate.

We hope this guide has helped you determine how many packs of laminate you need to buy.

However, if in doubt or you lack time, speak to your professional floor fitter. They have the expertise to accurately measure your space and advise on the appropriate quantity of packs needed for installation.
